Materials and finish levels
Standard walls take 1/2" board; ceilings on 24" o.c. framing and garage separation assemblies take 5/8", Type X where a fire rating applies. Bathrooms, laundry rooms and basement perimeters get moisture-resistant board. Joints are bedded in setting-type compound, which hardens chemically and resists shrinkage, then coated with all-purpose compound that sands easily. Outside corners take metal or paper-faced corner bead.
Finish is specified by level: Level 2 and 3 for garages and utility space, Level 4 as the residential standard, and Level 5 (a skim coat over the entire surface) wherever gloss paint or raking light would reveal the difference in porosity between compound and paper. Existing knockdown and orange-peel textures are matched off a sample board before anything is sprayed on your wall.

How much does drywall work cost in Edison? +

Do you match existing texture so the repair does not show? +
Yes. We spray a sample board, hold it against your wall, and adjust until the pattern matches: knockdown, orange peel, skip trowel, or hand-troweled. Because texture takes paint differently from flat wall, we prime the patch and recommend painting the full plane corner to corner rather than spot painting.
Is my popcorn ceiling safe to remove? +
Acoustic texture applied before about 1980 can contain asbestos, so on a home of that age we recommend a lab test of a sampled chip before any scraping. A positive result means the work belongs with a licensed abatement contractor, and we will tell you that rather than proceed. Negative results, and any newer ceiling, we handle in-house.
How much dust will this make in my house? +
Sanding makes dust; the question is whether it stays in the room. We sheet the doorways, cover floors and furniture, run a fan to negative-pressure the space out a window, and vacuum-sand where the layout allows. Adjacent rooms should be clean when we leave.
How long does a room take? +
Finishing is limited by drying time, not labor. A patch with texture matching is usually one visit. A single room hung, taped, and finished runs three to four visits across four to six days, because each coat has to dry before the next one goes on. Setting-type compound shortens that where the schedule is tight.
