Dry first, then rebuild
Gypsum wicks water well above the visible stain line. We probe with a moisture meter, cut back to dry material, and wait on framing that still reads wet. Board hung over damp studs traps moisture and grows the problem behind a finished wall.
What gets replaced
Saturated board and wet batt insulation come out. Framing that is sound gets treated and dried. Replacement uses moisture-resistant board in basements and behind plumbing walls, standard board elsewhere, taped and finished to match the surrounding surface.
